Consulting Services

If you already have a website and are considering changes, or if you are interacting with a website company that is part of a larger operation, HomePage Doctor will serve as your independent "in-house" expert, assisting you in preparing for and interfacing with the Web designers / Service Providers of your choice. Rates for this service are $60/hour plus expenses.

This is a service independent of HomePage Doctor's web site design business (described below), with advantage to the client of having a completely impartial "in-house" expert.

HomePage Doctor is also in the business of web site design; in situations where HomePage Doctor is doing the site design, there are no consulting fees -- business is conducted as described below.

Getting Your Website Name

First we will determine if the name you wish to have is available, or if as often happens, someone else is already using the name. When we find a name that is both acceptable to you and available to you, we will register the name for you with INTERNIC, the keeper-of-record for registered names. INTERNIC charges $35 for name registration.

Aside from the $35 that goes to INTERNIC, HomePage Doctor charges nothing for the service of finding and registering your name.

Designing Your Custom Website

Designing web sites is our business. We will work closely with you to understand what you want, and will agree with you on a cost for designing your site. We will then design a prototype web site and show you how to access it. Based upon feedback we get from you after you have seen and used your prototype web site, we will make any changes you desire.

When you are satisfied, we will publish the finished website on the internet for you, using an appropriate Internet Service Provider (see section below) so that your site is available to anyone on the Internet.

No payment is due HomePage Doctor until you are satisfied with your site and it is published on the internet.

Finding a Host to Meet Your Business Needs

There are many companies called Internet Service Providers (ISP's) that run computers connected to the Internet (sometimes called the World Wide Web, or WWW). ISP's provide a very wide range of services and a correspondingly wide range of monthly and setup fees. We will explain to you the pros-and-cons so that you understand what you are getting or not getting for the monthly fee. 

Monthly fees can range from $15 to $100 or more for "hosting" a web presence for your company, depending upon your ISP and the services/reliability they provide. Those fees are payable to your ISP -- HomePage Doctor is not in the hosting business.  Many internet companies who do design work also plan to host your site, and they have no incentive to get you the best deal hosting package available because they want your monthly fee. HomePage Doctor does not do web-hosting -- we will put you with a low-cost reliable provider that will save a lot of money each month.

Based upon our understanding of your business needs, we will recommend a cost-effective and reliable ISP for hosting your website. We will then upload your prototype web-site files to the computers of the ISP. From that point on, your site is active on the World Wide Web, and your ISP will charge you a monthly "hosting" fee for keeping your web site available to people on the Web at all times.

Updating Your Website

HomePage Doctor will perform on-going changes & upgrades to your site as requested. These will be done in much the same manner as was the original site design -- by agreeing with you on what the cost will be, and then completing the upgrade on a prototype system to your satisfaction, and then publishing the upgrade for you.
